Alkane Resource: Yttrium

Yttrium is a silvery-metallic element and is highly crystalline.  Its major applications include electronics and optical glass, phosphors for energy-efficient compact fluorescent globes, television and computer screens (LCDs), LEDs, ceramics and as an alloying element in various steels and magnesium/aluminium alloys.

End Product

At the Dubbo Project, Yttrium will be recovered onsite from the rare earth processing circuit to produce around 1,031tpa of 99% purity yttrium oxide (yttria, Y2O3).  Some of the output will be used in the manufacture of yttria stabilised zirconias, which have many ceramic applications.
