Tomingley Gold Extension Project

Development of the San Antonio and Roswell resources

Tomingley Gold Extension Project: San Antonio & Roswell Deposits

Extending operations at Tomingley until at least 2032

Alkane is extending mining operations at Tomingley to the San Antonio and Roswell (SAR) resources immediately south of the current mine. This $30M+ project involves development of an underground mine at Roswell and one large open cut . We will also construct a new section of the Newell Highway and realign Kyalite Rd.

The Tomingley Gold Extension Project was approved by the New South Wales Minister for Planning on 21 February 2023. Alkane has development consent until end-2032. This extension of our operations will secure additional jobs for the region and extend our business arrangements with numerous local suppliers.

Project overview

Mining Lease and Environment Protection Licence

The Mining Lease was granted from 19 July 2023 and the Environment Protection Licence has been varied to include the additional land and activities associated with the project.

All environmental and construction management plans have been updated for approval by government regulatory bodies.

Open cut and underground mining

Underground mining of ore at Roswell commenced in April 2024. The development utilises the exploration drive extending from the Wyoming One underground operation.

The SAR open cut will combine the adjacent San Antonio and Roswell deposits, with up to three sub pits. We intend to mine the open cut in stages to minimise biodiversity disturbance and allow progressive rehabilitation.

Before the open cut development can commence, we need to complete diversions to the Newell Highway and Kyalite Road.

Processing

The existing Tomingley processing plant is undergoing some modifications to achieve a maximum production rate of 1.75Mtpa.

Our consent conditions also permit paste filling of underground stopes at Roswell and wall-lifts to the second residue storage facility (RSF2) sufficient to contain mine residue that may be produced in the period to end-2032. The paste plant is currently under construction.

Waste rock and progressive rehabilitation

A waste rock emplacement will be established in the vicinity of the SAR open cut. We also intend to backfill the two Caloma open cuts and, in time, backfill a portion of the SAR open cut.

We intend to undertake progressive rehabilitation of these waste rock emplacements to ensure they are returned to stable and productive landforms that reside sympathetically within the environment.

Newell Highway realignment

Since the San Antonio and Roswell deposits are underneath the current Newell Highway, we will construct a new section of highway to bypass the development. The new section of highway will be built to the latest Austroads standards and incorporate several safety features.

Kyalite Road also needs to be realigned since it runs through the proposed open cut. We will divert the road slightly northwest via an overpass to meet the Newell Highway about 770m north of the current intersection.

These construction projects are expected to take six to nine months and must be completed before open cut development can commence. They have been planned in close consultation with Transport for NSW, as well as Narromine Shire Council, residents and road user groups.

Land use

We have purchased seven properties (approximately 2700ha) for this project. Some of this land holds the SAR deposit or is earmarked for waste rock emplacements and other supporting mine infrastructure. We also need some of the land for construction of the new sections of Newell Highway and Kyalite Road.

Once the new sections of road are open, Alkane will gift the associated land to Narromine Shire. The residual land not needed for the mining operation will be restored to a mix of agricultural land and biodiversity offsets (e.g. native bushland).

Upon conclusion of mining, the SAR mine site will be fully rehabilitated and restored to stable and productive agricultural land or ecosystems. The final landform will include one final void and a rehabilitated waste rock emplacement. We have committed to improving agricultural productivity, as well as protecting, enhancing and re-establishing areas of native vegetation during and following the life of operation.

The Mineral Resource tables are included with the Tomingley resource information.

Tomingley community hub

Alkane has been part of the Tomingley and Narromine Shire communities since we broke ground at Tomingley in early 2013.
As we are a residential operation, most of our employees live in the local area with their families and engage in community activities.
